Frozen Foods Department Manager

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Frozen Foods Department Manager in Grimes. The manager sets the department's standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance and profitability, and presents fresh, high-quality products at competitive prices. The position is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, the Store Manager and the assistant managers of Store Operations, Perishables and Health Wellness Home.

Key responsibilities

• Create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and set department standards for customer service, cleanliness and sanitation.
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, discipline and evaluate department employees, and determine department goals with the store director.
• Determine weekly schedules and daily work plans, inspect displays, order product for replenishment and plan displays and promotions.
• Handle customer issues, figure retail pricing, extend and post invoices and oversee department bookkeeping.
• Analyze weekly and monthly sales and trends, prepare ad projections and write ads, and conduct department inventory.
• Maintain proper temperatures and storage procedures, troubleshoot equipment and ensure maintenance is done.
• Supervise others, coordinate activities, allocate personnel, approve discipline and recommend transfers, discharges and salary increases.
• Secondary duties include filling displays, checking in deliveries, working in the sales area, unloading trucks and performing other store duties as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or over one year of related work experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages, and handle filing, copying, interviewing and guiding people.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, and to climb, balance, kneel, stand, walk, pull and lift.
• Visual acuity from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with or without correction, and color vision.
• Working conditions include temperature extremes, dampness, possible equipment movement hazards, electrical shock and exposure to cleaning chemicals; the work is fast-paced.
