Group Exercise Instructor – LaBlast

About the role

The Group Exercise Instructor leads LaBlast classes at the Charles River YMCA, creating a safe, enjoyable environment for participants of all skill levels. Reporting to the Health and Wellness Director, you will help members develop healthy habits through engaging group workouts.

Key responsibilities

• Lead energizing, fun, and educational group exercise classes while ensuring safety and proper technique.
• Answer participant questions, track attendance in MotionVibe, and adjust classes to meet diverse health, ability, and cultural needs.
• Build community by fostering authentic relationships among members and encouraging peer support.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of wellness trends through YUSA courses and external training.
• Follow YMCA policies, respond to emergencies, and resolve member issues in line with YMCA values.

Required profile

• At least one year of experience leading group exercise classes.
• Current NCCA‑accredited Group Exercise certification (e.g., ACE, AFFA, NASM, NSCA, ISSA).
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• Ability to work with diverse populations, including youth, seniors, and special needs participants.

Required skills

• Group exercise instruction and class modification.
• Knowledge of various fitness formats (Yoga, Spin, Les Mills Body Pump, Body Combat, etc.).
• Effective communication with adults, teens, and seniors.
