Group Counselor – Intensive Outpatient Program

About the role

Ava Health is seeking a compassionate Group Counselor to facilitate therapeutic groups within its Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Grand Junction, Colorado. This part‑time position supports adults with co‑occurring mental health and substance‑use concerns.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate scheduled IOP therapeutic groups, creating a safe, structured, and respectful environment.
• Lead psychoeducation, skills practice, therapeutic processing, and experiential activities using evidence‑informed approaches.
• Manage challenging group dynamics, maintain appropriate boundaries, and document sessions accurately.
• Collaborate with therapists, psychiatrists, nursing staff, case managers, and the broader treatment team.

Required profile

• Master’s‑level clinical intern, Colorado‑certified addiction technician/specialist, or licensed behavioral health professional (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, etc.).
• Comfortable working with all‑gender, mixed‑diagnosis groups and clients presenting a range of mental health and substance‑use issues.
• Ability to receive feedback, engage in supervision, and uphold ethical and confidentiality standards.

Required skills

• Facilitation of therapeutic, psychoeducational, recovery, or behavioral‑health groups.
• Use of motivational interviewing, CBT, DBT, ACT, relapse‑prevention, emotional‑regulation, mindfulness, and other evidence‑based techniques.
