Government Healthcare Data Consultant

About the role

Mercer, a Marsh business, is looking for a Government Healthcare Data Consultant for its Government Human Service Consultant (GHSC) - Informatics team. The role sits within a team that helps state governments optimize their Medicaid programs by managing and analyzing Medicaid claims data. It can be based in Phoenix, Minneapolis, Atlanta or Seattle with a hybrid arrangement of at least three days per week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Use SAS programming software to interpret, validate and analyze large healthcare datasets
• Take part in initial client or project-lead meetings to define the project scope and share expertise on the capabilities of different approaches
• Define the data process based on project scope, project-lead insight and direction from senior actuarial staff
• Understand why data anomalies and exceptions occur, propose solutions and communicate them to client teams
• Work in an environment that embraces AI and technology-enabled tools
• Perform technical peer review of data analysis projects
• Mentor junior staff

Required profile

• BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
• At least 4 years of experience using SAS, SQL or an equivalent programming language (SAS desired)
• Experience with healthcare claims data
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills, and ability to prioritize in a demanding environment
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Nice to have: experience with Medicaid programs and healthcare data, preferably in a consulting setting, and excellent oral and written communication skills

What we offer

• Base salary range of $68,500 to $137,000, depending on experience, skills, location and other factors, with possible performance-based incentives
