General Adjuster (Telecommuter, NJ)

About the role

Sedgwick is hiring a General Adjuster working remotely from New Jersey. The role investigates claims against insurance or other companies for personal, casualty or property loss or damage and tries to settle them out of court. It handles complex losses locally without assistance up to a designated authority and helps on larger cases, including accounting-based losses such as business interruption and stock.

Key responsibilities

• Examine claim forms and other records to determine insurance coverage.
• Interview, telephone or correspond with claimants and witnesses, consult police and hospital records and inspect property damage to assess liability.
• Estimate the cost of repair, replacement or compensation.
• Prepare a report of findings, negotiate settlements and recommend litigation when needed; attend litigation hearings.
• Revise case reserves in assigned files and assist in preparing loss experience reports to help determine profitability and calculate future rates.
• Support the organisation's quality programs, travel as required and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• IIC-AIC designation earned and actively pursuing another professional insurance designation.
• Appropriate state adjuster license required.
• Five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Physical requirements include standing or walking for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds and driving up to 4 hours per day.

• Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• PC literacy, including Microsoft Office products.
• Timely reporting, attention to detail, good time management and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently or in a team and to meet performance competencies.

• Starting pay range of $85,000-$90,000 for this role.
