General Adjuster - NE Atlanta

About the role

Sedgwick is hiring a General Adjuster for its NE Atlanta office. The primary purpose of the role is to investigate claims against insurance or other companies for personal, casualty or property loss or damage, and to try to settle them out of court.

Key responsibilities

• Handle complex losses locally without assistance, up to the designated authority, and assist on larger losses including accounting-based ones such as business interruption and stock.
• Examine claim forms and other records to determine insurance coverage.
• Interview, telephone or correspond with claimants and witnesses, consult police and hospital records and inspect property damage to assess liability.
• Estimate the cost of repair, replacement or compensation, prepare a report of findings and negotiate settlements.
• Recommend litigation when settlement cannot be reached, attend litigation hearings, revise case reserves and assist in preparing loss experience reports and rate calculations.
• Perform other duties as assigned, support the organization's quality programs and travel as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• IIC-AIC designation earned and actively pursuing another professional insurance designation.
• Appropriate state adjuster license required.
• Five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required skills

• Strong oral and written communication, including presentation skills.
• PC literate, including Microsoft Office products.
• Timely reporting, strong customer service, attention to detail, good time management and ability to work independently or in a team.

The role involves standing or walking for long periods, working outdoors in hot or cold weather, lifting up to 50 pounds and driving up to 4 hours per day. Sedgwick is an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace.
