About the role
The University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) at Rutgers is seeking a full‑time Staff Nurse (RN) to provide ambulatory nursing care for inmates at Bayside State Prison in Leesburg, New Jersey. The role involves delivering direct and indirect care, collaborating with health‑care professionals and security staff, and following correctional health protocols.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and identify physical health needs of adult and geriatric inmate patients.
- Develop inmate‑centered nursing goals, implement prescribed interventions, and monitor outcomes.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams and correctional officers in a secure environment.
- Serve as a team leader when assigned and follow established nursing protocols.
Required profile
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current New Jersey RN license.
- CPR certification and a valid driver’s license.
- Computer literacy for electronic health record documentation.
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and at least one year of correctional health experience.
