Full-Time Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Pain Management

About the role

Ochsner is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its Pain Management team in Metairie. The role operates within a collaborative model alongside residents, fellows, attendings, and staff, providing comprehensive outpatient care under the supervision of the Medical Director.

Key responsibilities

• Utilize approved medical practice processes to deliver patient care, including physical, psycho‑social, educational, and safety assessments.
• Provide education to patients, families, staff, and the community, and adapt communication to diverse patient populations.
• Maintain inquiry into medical practices, develop research methodology, and stay current on federal, state, and local regulations.
• Collaborate with PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinators for planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
• Perform emergency stabilization, urgent medical management, and teaching of residents and medical students.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in nursing and a Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine, health sciences, or graduation from an approved PA program.
• Current APRN license (Family, Adult/Geriatric, or Pediatric) and a valid PA license with NCCPA certification.
• BCLS/ACLS certification from the American Heart Association and eligibility for prescriptive authority.
• Reliable transportation and ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on‑call availability.

Required skills

• Proficient computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
• Experience with Windows‑style applications and role‑specific software.
• BCLS and ACLS certification.
