Front Desk Medical Receptionist

About the role

SUNY Stony Brook Clinical Practice Management Plan (Stony Brook CPMP) is hiring a Front Desk Medical Receptionist for its neurology associates in the Lake Grove, E Setauket and Commack area. The receptionist supports the daily front-desk operations so that workflow and patient care run smoothly. The position is full time, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 7:00 pm, with pay of $19.78 to $24.72 depending on experience and education.

Key responsibilities

• Answer, screen and route phone calls, taking messages and referring urgent medical queries to the physician or nurse
• Maintain a clean and organized reception area
• Use the electronic medical record (EMR) and other systems for check-in/check-out, verify patient demographics and insurance, obtain signatures and collect payments
• Enter and scan patient data into the EMR
• Notify providers of arrivals, delays or backlogs and coordinate with staff and patients
• Schedule appointments and services, and remind patients of required documentation
• Obtain referrals, authorizations and eligibility verifications, and reschedule appointments by phone when needed
• Keep office supplies stocked and follow HIPAA guidelines at all times
• Provide night and weekend coverage as needed and update client information

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
• Excellent typing skills and friendly telephone etiquette
• Preferred: graduate of an accredited Medical Office Administration program, 6 months of medical receptionist experience in a high-volume practice, 1 year of clerical experience, and proficiency with an EMR and practice management system
