Foundry Tooling Engineer

About the role

M&H Valve Company, part of Birmingham, Alabama-based McWane, Inc., is hiring a Foundry Tooling Engineer in Anniston. The engineer designs and develops the molds, patterns, cores and fixtures needed to produce cast metal parts, optimizes tooling for manufacturing efficiency, simulates the casting process and troubleshoots tooling defects to reduce scrap. The role leads the Pattern Shop's engineering for gating, risering and tooling, supports the DISA 250C vertical green sand molding line and the future North Line, and owns pattern fabrication, maintenance and life cycle.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure personal and team safety, wear appropriate PPE, and promote the McWane Way principles
• Specify pattern construction details such as draft, parting line, shrinkage allowance, vent placement and core print geometry
• Maintain the master tooling drawing set and as-built records for every active pattern
• Coordinate tooling rework, repair and replacement with patternmakers and suppliers
• Partner with Quality Engineering on defect correlation and lead A3 problem solving on tooling-related scrap
• Drive root cause closure on defects such as shift mismatch, fin, swell, blow and dimensional issues
• Own the preventive maintenance schedule for active patterns and track pattern usage and wear
• Support foundry modernization projects and North Line capacity planning, including pattern duplication and changeover protocols
• Lead trial pour campaigns, collect data, map defects and write qualification reports

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials or related)
• Prior exposure to a manufacturing environment through internships, co-ops or full-time roles
• Ability to spend long hours on the shop floor in foundry conditions and to do light hands-on tooling work

Required skills

• Working knowledge of root cause analysis methods (5 Why, Fishbone, A3 or equivalent)
• Strong written and verbal communication
