Food Service Aide – Hospital Kitchen

About the role

The Food Service Aide works in the hospital kitchen to ensure patients receive safe, nutritious meals. This hands‑on position supports the culinary team and contributes directly to patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Dish up, portion, assemble, weigh, measure and serve food according to production sheets, menus and setup diagrams.
• Prepare quality food items using recipes, ovens, grills, induction stoves and cold‑prep stations.
• Operate kitchen equipment, load/unload dish machines and assist the cook as needed.
• Assemble, transport, pick up and disassemble patient trays; set up and clean special meals for meetings.
• Follow sanitation procedures, maintain a clean work area and adhere to infection‑control guidelines.

Required profile

• Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal directions.
• Basic math skills for measuring, weighing and portioning food.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in food service or ability to perform general food‑service duties.

Required skills

• Food handling and sanitation practices.
• Operation of kitchen equipment (grills, ovens, induction stoves, food processors).
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 30 lb and work in hot or wet environments.
