Food Service Aide – Hospital Dietary Team

About the role

The Food Service Aide works in the Dietary department of Akron General Medical Center, providing safe, nutritious meals to patients and supporting the hospital’s nutrition services during the evening shift.

Key responsibilities

• Dish up, portion, assemble, weigh, measure and serve food items according to production sheets, menus and setup diagrams.
• Prepare quality food items using grills, ovens, induction stoves and cold‑prep stations, following recipes and sanitation standards.
• Operate kitchen equipment such as food processors, slicers and dish machines, and report any malfunctions.
• Assemble, transport, pick up and disassemble patient trays, and assist with special dinners and luncheons for meetings.
• Maintain a clean, sanitized work area, follow “clean as you go” policy, and adhere to infection‑control procedures.

Required profile

• Ability to measure, add, subtract, multiply and divide during food preparation.
• Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal directions.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in food service or ability to perform general food‑service duties.

Required skills

• Operate kitchen equipment (grills, ovens, induction stoves, slicers, dish machines).
• Prepare hot and cold food items according to recipes and menus.
• Follow proper food‑handling, sanitation and infection‑control procedures.
