Cook – Hospital Food Service

About the role

The Cook prepares a variety of meals for patients, caregivers, visitors and special events at Akron General Medical Center. The position works day shifts with rotating weekend and holiday coverage.

Key responsibilities

• Cook and prepare food according to recipes, production sheets and instructions.
• Plan daily production schedules, manage leftovers, portion, assemble and deliver items.
• Maintain supplies, finished products, pre‑prepped items, utensils and equipment.
• Test or taste food to ensure quality, correct temperature and safety.
• Deliver prepared food to appropriate service, storage or catering areas.
• Follow sanitation procedures, clean‑as‑you‑go policy and maintain a sanitized work area.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Institutional cooking experience with at least one year producing quantity meals.
• Knowledge of cooking techniques, timeframes, temperatures, sanitation and equipment use/cleaning.
• Ability to judge food quality (flavor, aroma, texture, temperature).

Required skills

• Operation of kitchen equipment such as stove, steamer, slow cooker, oven, kettle, slicer, grill, fryer and hot/cold boxes.
• Food handling techniques and proper sanitation practices.
• Ability to work rapidly, stand continuously and lift materials.
