Food Service Aide – Hospital Dietary Department

About the role

The Food Service Aide supports patient nutrition at Akron General Medical Center by preparing, portioning, and serving meals. This part‑time night shift position works from 11:00 pm to 7:30 am, providing hands‑on experience in a hospital dietary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Dish up, portion, assemble, weigh, measure and serve food according to production sheets, menus and setup diagrams.
• Prepare quality food items using recipes, grills, ovens, induction stoves and cold‑food stations.
• Assist the cook, transport patient trays, and set up/clean special dinners and luncheons.
• Load and unload the dish machine, disassemble patient trays following infection‑control procedures.
• Maintain a clean, sanitized work area and follow “clean as you go” policies.
• Report equipment failures or malfunctions to a supervisor immediately.

Required profile

• Ability to measure, weigh, add/subtract and multiply/divide during food preparation.
• Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal directions.
• High School Diploma or GED (preferred) and experience in food service (preferred).
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 30 lb, work in hot and wet environments, and handle kitchen equipment safely.
