About the role
The Food Animal Medicine & Surgery Intern will join the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine to gain hands‑on experience in large‑animal clinical practice. Working alongside faculty, the intern will provide veterinary care, participate in emergency duty, and support the education of Phase II students.
Key responsibilities
- Provide clinical care for large‑animal patients: examine, order diagnostics, diagnose, prescribe treatments, and communicate with clients (≈50%).
- Participate in the emergency duty rotation, covering evenings, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule (≈30%).
- Assist in tutorial instruction of Phase II students, including daily rounds (≈10%).
- Attend journal club, HO Rounds/Seminar (VMED 7001), and other required seminars (≈10%).
- Perform additional duties as assigned by clinical faculty.
Required profile
- DVM or equivalent degree.
- Successful completion of the NAVLE (or eligibility to sit for it).
- Ability to meet physical demands: standing, walking, lifting >50 lb, and working varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Compliance with safety‑sensitive job requirements and drug‑screening policies.
