Fly Fishing Guide

About the role

The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs is hiring a Fly Fishing Guide for Kate's Mountain Outfitters, a seasonal position in its retail department. The guide teaches guests fly-casting lessons and handles guest interaction, ordering and clerical tasks, while also maintaining equipment and stream areas.

Key responsibilities

• Provide guests with knowledgeable and professional fly-casting lessons
• Use the POS and Concepts reservation systems
• Handle guest interaction, ordering, clean-up and clerical duties
• Clean equipment and perform periodic stream maintenance and clean-up

Required profile

• High school diploma; customer service skills and experience dealing with the public
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Valid West Virginia driver's license and a valid state fishing license (or ability to obtain one during probation)
• Experienced fly fisherman with in-depth knowledge of rods, reels and lines
• Ability to teach basic casts and correct common mistakes

Required skills

• POS system operation and understanding of retail SOPs
• Product knowledge and ability to learn it quickly
• Fluency in fly casting: forward, back, roll and single/double haul casts, including a 70-foot roll cast, 60-foot overhead cast without haul and 90-foot overhead cast with haul on a 5-weight rod
• Good knot tying (improve cinch, surgeon's loop, nail knot)

Working hours are 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., weekends and holidays, with flexible hours; the shop is open 7 days a week. The position requires standing, walking, climbing, bending and lifting up to 20 pounds.
