Floral Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee's floral department helps customers find the right arrangement for every occasion, and Floral Clerks are a key part of that. The role involves assisting customers with orders, creating simple floral designs, keeping the department stocked and beautiful, and delivering warm, attentive service. It is an hourly position in a fast-moving store environment.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers and help them place orders in person or by phone, including completing all required paperwork
• Prepare, finish and replenish arrangements, corsages, boutonnieres, roses, carnations, balloon bouquets, bows and other items
• Send and retrieve FTD, Teleflora and computer orders while keeping order details confidential
• Check products for freshness and anticipate daily needs, water plants and keep the department clean
• Prepare delivery lists, unload trucks, check in product, put it away and process invoices
• Run the register, receive payment and make change
• Answer the phone promptly and pitch in with other tasks and special projects

Required profile

• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent experience accepted
• Six months of similar or related work experience preferred; training is provided
• Commitment to Hy-Vee's mission and a genuine passion for helping customers
• Ability to solve practical problems and follow instructions in a fast pace, and to work with sharp knives and blades where applicable

Required skills

• Applying math skills such as fractions, decimals and percentages in day-to-day tasks
• Maintaining confidentiality on customer order details
• Clear communication with customers and co-workers

The anticipated hourly starting wage is $13.50 to $16.80 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
