Dairy Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Dairy Clerk for its Lakeville store. The clerk rotates and replenishes dairy merchandise while keeping quality standards high, and provides courteous, friendly and efficient customer service. The position is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager and Assistant Managers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers by name when possible, and help them find products, load or unload heavy items and pass on their suggestions.
• Answer the telephone promptly and help callers.
• Rotate and replenish merchandise, face merchandise, build end-cap displays and fill through the week as needed.
• Unload trucks and place product in the right storage area, keeping the area organized, the floor dry and the temperature correct.
• Clean cases and sweep the floor, and keep the department tidy.
• Order product requested by the department manager and take part in monthly and quarterly physical inventories.
• Check invoices against delivered product when asked, and assist in other store areas and special projects as needed.

Required profile

• Less than high school education or equivalent, and six months or less of similar or related experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems, follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, and do simple addition and subtraction.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, and to climb, balance, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull and lift.
• Visual acuity within 20 inches to 20 feet, with or without correction.

Working conditions

• Fast-paced environment with continuous exposure to noise and temperature extremes, and frequent dirt and dampness.
• Daily contact with suppliers, vendors and customers.
• Equipment used includes box cutters, two-wheelers, ice cream carts, milk dollies, cash register, intercom, calculator, pallet jack and RPM.

The anticipated starting hourly wage is $13.00 to $16.25 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
