Bakery Department Manager

About the role

Hy-Vee is looking for a Bakery Department Manager in Lakeville. The manager sets the tone for the department, from product quality to the customer experience, and leads a team while building relationships. The role is fast-paced and hands-on, with support from the District Store Director, Store Manager and assistant managers.

Key responsibilities

• Set and uphold standards for customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, team relations and profitability
• Encourage the team to greet and engage customers, and assist them with finding products, reaching items and carrying heavy purchases
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate employees, and handle performance and disciplinary matters
• Coordinate scheduling, daily work plans and department goals with store leadership
• Oversee ordering, replenishment, pricing, invoicing and bookkeeping
• Analyze sales trends, prepare ad projections and plan promotions and displays
• Ensure proper product temperatures, storage and freshness standards to minimize shrink
• Troubleshoot bakery equipment and coordinate maintenance, conduct inventory and manage pre-orders
• Maintain compliance with dress code, hygiene standards and company policies, and help with other store areas and special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• One or more years of related bakery or retail management experience preferred
• Completion of sanitation courses or on-the-job food safety training is a plus
• Physical ability to lift 100 pounds or more, stand and walk on hard surfaces for long periods, and work in cooler or freezer environments
• Ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts or similar equipment where applicable, with certification completed before independent use

The anticipated annual starting wage is $51,480 to $64,480 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
