Experienced RN – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

About the role

The Progressive Care Unit at Cleveland Clinic Akron General provides high‑quality, patient‑centered care with a 1:3 RN‑to‑patient ratio. This night‑shift RN position (7:00 pm‑7:30 am) supports patients with complex needs, including respiratory, cardiac, and neurological conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care, assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
• Monitor patients on non‑invasive BiPAP, continuous pulse oximetry, insulin infusions, cardiac/vasoactive drips, chronic tracheostomy ventilation, acute stroke care, spinal drains, transvenous pacemakers, and arterial lines.
• Document care, administer medications and treatments, and communicate changes during shift reports.
• Participate in interdisciplinary care planning, discharge planning, and quality improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited ADN or BSN program.
• Current Ohio RN licensure.
• One year of step‑down or critical‑care RN experience in a hospital.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within the first year of employment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with BiPAP, pulse oximetry, insulin infusion pumps, and vasoactive medication administration.
• Experience with chronic tracheostomy ventilation, spinal drain management, and transvenous pacemaker care.
• Certification in CVVHD training, Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within one year, and TCAR within 24 months.
