Experienced RN – Progressive Care Unit Night Shift

About the role

The Progressive Care Unit at Akron General Medical Center is transitioning to a Level II unit, delivering higher‑level intermediate care to a complex patient population. This full‑time night‑shift RN position provides direct, patient‑centered care and education while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients requiring BIPAP, continuous pulse‑ox monitoring, insulin therapy, cardiac/vasoactive infusions, ventilator support, and acute stroke management.
• Administer medications and treatments, document care accurately, and communicate changes during shift hand‑off.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary care plans, act as patient advocate, and participate in quality‑improvement and case‑management conferences.
• Delegate tasks, serve as a resource for staff, and maintain unit‑specific certifications.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited ADN or BSN program with current RN licensure in Ohio.
• Minimum one year of recent step‑down or critical‑care nursing experience in a hospital setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (or obtain within one year of hire).

Required skills

• Proficiency in monitoring and managing invasive and non‑invasive respiratory support.
• Experience with insulin administration, cardiac/vasoactive drug titration, and arterial waveform monitoring.
• Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments and respond to rapid changes in condition.
