Exercise Physiologist – Cardiopulmonary Rehab (PRN)

About the role

The Exercise Physiologist provides patient‑first cardiac rehabilitation services for individuals recovering from open‑heart surgery and percutaneous coronary interventions. Working in a PRN capacity, the caregiver develops individualized exercise programs, monitors progress, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team across multiple sites.

Key responsibilities

• Provide patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance assessments.
• Develop and adjust individualized exercise prescriptions based on test data, patient status, and medication regimen.
• Implement cardiac secondary‑prevention concepts and recognize contraindications to exercise.
• Respond to abnormal patient responses, including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
• Deliver exercise education to patients, peers, and the community through public speaking and classes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an exercise‑related field.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Physical ability to stand, walk for long periods, assist patients with standing and walking, and perform lifting, bending, and twisting as needed.
• Ability to work in varying room temperatures and follow standard precautions with personal protective equipment.
