Executive Director, International Student & Scholar Services

About the role

The Executive Director leads the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) at the University of Miami, overseeing support for roughly 3,000 international students, scholars, faculty, and researchers. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, the role ensures compliance with federal immigration regulations and enhances the overall experience of the international campus community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide vision, leadership, and strategic planning for the ISSS department.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate short‑ and long‑term goals aligned with university and student affairs objectives.
• Oversee all immigration‑related enrollment processes, including I‑20 issuance, data coordination with admissions, and advising academic units.
• Manage the international scholar admission workflow across all schools and colleges.
• Collaborate with Institutional Research and Student Affairs on data reporting, compliance tracking, and analysis for the international population.
• Design and administer policies and procedures that streamline immigration documentation and application processing.
• Identify technical efficiencies and lead continuous improvement initiatives within ISSS operations.

Required profile

• Proven leadership and management experience in International Student and Scholar Services or a comparable higher‑education setting.
• In‑depth knowledge of U.S. federal regulations governing international student enrollment and scholar hosting.
• Ability to develop strategic plans, set operational goals, and drive departmental performance.
• Strong collaboration skills with admissions, academic departments, and institutional research teams.
