Equestrian Groom

About the role

The Greenbrier Hotel's Livery department is hiring an Equestrian Groom in White Sulphur Springs. The groom provides horseback and carriage rides to guests while sharing the resort's history and facts, and takes care of the horses under their supervision. The job involves daily grooming, stall cleaning and barn maintenance at a 30-stall barn.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily physical and psychological inspections of all horses and report abnormalities to the manager
• Lead horseback rides and/or drive carriage or sleigh while narrating guided trips
• Clean, harness and unharness horses, and provide basic first aid such as bandaging small scrapes and cuts
• Muck out stalls, help with stable maintenance and prepare and distribute feed
• Handle feed additives and medicated supplements, and perform daily leg maintenance including tendon rubbing and hoof inspection
• Assist with Kates Mountain Retail and interact professionally with guests and team members
• Sweep, dust and clean all areas, including public areas, tack rooms, offices and restrooms

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience riding and working with horses
• Excellent verbal communication skills and guest interaction
• Knowledge of The Greenbrier and its history
• Good communication with the manager and teamwork abilities
• Ability to operate farm equipment and a driver's license

Required skills

• Knowledge of tack and harness
• Typing at 40 WPM and intermediate data entry
• Intermediate computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet and calendars
