Environmental Protection Specialist (Direct Hire)

About the role

The Environmental Protection Specialist will support NASA Kennedy Space Center in developing high‑quality National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and ensuring compliance with a range of environmental statutes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review NEPA documents, ensuring scientifically supported analysis and mitigation measures.
• Prepare technical documentation for special‑purpose environmental laws (cultural resources, threatened and endangered species, noise, water quality, wetlands, air quality).
• Define project requirements, develop scopes of work, create schedules, and manage environmental projects, service contracts, and agreements.
• Coordinate environmental compliance with internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide support for environmental design reviews, compliance assistance, checklists, stakeholder engagement, and NEPA actions.
• Develop oral and written technical briefings, presentations, and reports for agency officials and the public.
• Design and implement mechanisms to mitigate, monitor, or avoid adverse environmental impacts.
• Advise on Federal, State, and local environmental laws, documentation, and reporting requirements.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen, national, or individual owing allegiance to the United States.
• Ability to obtain any required background investigation, clearance, financial disclosure, drug testing, or travel authorizations.
• Specialized experience related to environmental protection and NEPA processes (GS‑13 level requires at least one year of directly related experience).
• Willingness to serve a one‑year probationary period if required.
