Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

About the role

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist will support the site EHS Manager in implementing BASF’s Responsible Care initiatives and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and security regulations at the Jackson, Michigan facility.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain Hazardous Incident Risk Assessments (HIRA) and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Conduct EHS training, audits, and inspections; manage hazard communication and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
• Oversee work permit systems, PPE evaluations, emergency response planning, and process safety measures.
• Support occupational safety activities, including hazard identification and risk assessments.
• Manage waste handling, environmental protection tasks, and contractor pre‑qualification.
• Act as Site Security Representative: develop security procedures, maintain security plans and systems, and integrate security considerations into projects.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in industrial EHS programs, preferably in a manufacturing or chemical environment.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. environmental, health, safety, and security regulations.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and work collaboratively with site management.
• Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
