Watershed Engineer – Hydrology & Stormwater Projects

About the role

Waggoner Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Watershed Engineer to support watershed planning, stormwater, drainage, and water resources projects for municipal, state, federal and private clients across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Support watershed planning, stormwater, drainage, and water resources engineering projects from concept through construction.
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for watershed studies, drainage systems, floodplain analysis and resiliency projects.
• Prepare technical reports, drainage studies, calculations, exhibits and construction documents for municipal, transportation and land development projects.
• Assist with watershed master planning, flood mitigation, erosion and sediment control design and stormwater management planning.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, planners and clients to develop practical solutions while maintaining schedules and budgets.
• Support permitting and regulatory coordination with agencies such as FEMA, USACE, MDEQ and local municipalities.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits, data collection and construction support activities.
• Utilize industry‑standard software including HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, HY‑8, GIS platforms and AutoCAD Civil 3D for analyses and design.
• Contribute to proposal development, client meetings and multidisciplinary project coordination.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Biological, Environmental Engineering or related ABET‑accredited discipline.
• 3–8 years of experience in watershed engineering, stormwater management, drainage design or water resources engineering.
• Engineer Intern (EI) certification; ability to obtain PE licensure in Mississippi.
• Working knowledge of Mississippi drainage criteria, stormwater regulations and floodplain management practices.
