Landscape Maintenance Worker

About the role

The Landscape Maintenance Worker is responsible for keeping the Boston campus grounds clean, safe, and well-presented. This includes routine litter removal, turf care, hardscape maintenance, and snow removal as part of the university’s Snow Team.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain grounds by removing litter, leaves, and organic debris and cleaning roadways, walkways, and parking areas.
• Perform landscaping projects such as excavation, grading, and installation/renovation of display beds, turf areas, and driveways.
• Participate in snow and ice removal duties, including plowing, shoveling, salting, and sanding using university equipment.
• Operate and maintain equipment such as powered sweeper, steam cleaner, bobcat, dump truck, jack hammer, air knife/spade, rotor tiller, and chain saw.
• Detect and report equipment issues, defective materials, and safety hazards to the supervisor.

Required profile

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in arboriculture or related landscaping work.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license, DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate, and Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator’s License (within 3 months of hire).
• Massachusetts OPSI 2A and 1C hoisting licenses (within 6 months) and a valid Hydraulic License.
• Ability to perform strenuous manual labor and lift up to 50 lb, work in all weather conditions, and work overtime as needed.

Required skills

• Operation of powered sweeper, steam cleaner, bobcat, dump truck, jack hammer, air knife/spade, rotor tiller, chain saw, and lawn mower.
• Knowledge of turf maintenance techniques and hardscape construction.
