Elevator Inspector (QEI)

About the role

The Elevator Inspector (QEI) conducts trade‑specific inspections on elevators, escalators, mechanized walkways and related lift machinery to ensure compliance with applicable codes, drawings, specifications and contract documents.

Key responsibilities

• Perform code and quality control inspections on various phases of elevator and lift equipment.
• Detect defects or faults in installations, maintenance or operation and recommend remedial measures per jurisdictional requirements.
• Read and interpret equipment operation plans, blueprints and schematic drawings.
• Utilize standard testing devices to verify equipment meets established requirements.
• Coordinate work schedules with service companies and technicians to maximize efficiency.
• Work cooperatively with property managers, service companies and the public while adhering to safety practices.

Required profile

• Current QEI (Qualified Elevator Inspector) certification or five years of elevator industry experience.
• Knowledge of electric and hydraulic elevator systems, escalators and moving walks.
• Understanding of mechanical and electrical principles applied to elevators.
• Familiarity with the American National Standard Safety Code for Elevators and related jurisdictional requirements.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics and code documents.
