Electrical Controls Engineer

About the role

Join Matrix Technologies as an Electrical Controls Engineer in a hybrid role based out of our Edina, MN office. You will design low‑voltage control panels, MCCs and VFD panels for industrial and manufacturing clients, working both on‑site and in‑office.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical control packages using project documentation such as P&IDs and NEC standards.
• Create PLC I/O schematics, panel layouts, bill of materials, three‑line diagrams, cable schedules and conduit layouts.
• Coordinate with internal disciplines, OEMs, suppliers and installation contractors throughout design, procurement and field installation.
• Assist clients with bid walks, field start‑ups, I/O checks and on‑site troubleshooting.
• Estimate design and execution time and prepare written narratives for sales proposals.

Required profile

• U.S. work authorization without sponsorship and a valid driver’s license.
• 3–5 years of experience in automation, electrical design, control system integration, VFDs, MCCs, low‑voltage power distribution and industrial control networks.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited program.
• Ability to travel locally and overnight (≈20‑25%).

Required skills

• AutoCAD (schematic drawing and electrical package development).
• PLC programming and I/O hardware.
• AC & DC motor drives, VFDs, HMIs.
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes and Arc Flash safety.
• Proficiency with MS Office products.
