Education & Youth Services Fall 2026 Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an unpaid Education and Youth Services Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role supports refugee youth and their families through school orientation, tutoring, and community engagement activities in Louisville, KY.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate School Orientation sessions for students and families, including interpreter scheduling.
• Assist with school enrollment preparation and curriculum development for orientation and after‑school programs.
• Deliver tutoring, homework help, and academic coaching for refugee youth.
• Organize enrichment activities that promote academic improvement, social development, and cultural integration.
• Facilitate parent‑teacher meetings and act as a liaison among parents, students, teachers, and school administrators.
• Support planning and execution of educational field trips, volunteer events, and community outreach.
• Perform other duties as assigned by EYS staff.

Required profile

• Current undergraduate or graduate student, or less than 12 months post‑graduation.
• Access to reliable personal transportation; the IRC cannot provide transport or housing.
• U.S. citizenship or valid work authorization (the IRC does not sponsor visas).
• Ability to handle sensitive client information confidentially.
• Strong intercultural communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
• Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
• Adherence to IRC volunteer/intern and workplace policies.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written); additional language proficiency is a plus.
