Distribution Designer - Wisconsin

About the role

Atwell, a consulting, engineering and construction firm serving real estate, land development and energy clients, is hiring a Distribution Designer in Wisconsin. You will support project teams with design of overhead and underground distribution electrical facilities, working with electric utilities and private developers. The position is remote 2+ days per week and reports to the Green Bay office twice a week; candidates must be in the Wisconsin market, ideally near Green Bay, Wausau, Milwaukee or Madison.

Key responsibilities

• Overhead lines: pole replacement, PCB transformer replacements, infrastructure projects, line expansions, generation, refurbishment and new wood and composite poles
• Grid modernization: smart switches, battery storage, switch replacements, internal line conversions, rebuilds, voltage conversions and major projects
• Underground lines: feeder replacement (splicing, vaults, kiosks, switch gears) and overhead-to-underground transitions
• New customer connections, subdivision design, street lighting and upgrades to existing connections
• System improvement pole locations, substation design and service design
• Drafting documents, computations and local permit applications, and verifying as-built conditions in GIS/AUD

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of NESC, PENG (overhead and underground) and client requirements
• Design experience on distribution, transmission, system improvement, substation, service and/or switch replacement projects
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Preferred: RUS standards, experience in electric distribution, natural gas, substation or communications, DDS and AUD experience

Required skills

• AutoCAD
• Familiarity with engineering design software such as PLS CADD, PLS POLE, SPIDACalc, Quick Pole, CDEGS, CYMECAP, CYMEDIST, CYMETCC, SAG10, O-Calc (as specified by the purchaser)
