Distribution Center Operations Manager

About the role

The DC Operations Manager ensures the success of assigned functions within a complex distribution center, working with the General Manager or DC Assistant General Manager to set strategies and objectives that maximize productivity and control expenses. The manager supervises one or more functions such as inbound receiving, warehouse pick-pack and break-pack, outbound loading, yard and carrier relations, and office operations, leading through several supervisors to a large number of hourly associates.

Key responsibilities

• Manage operational excellence across warehouse areas, including efficient use of warehouse management systems, safe and efficient receipt and processing of inventory, proper layout and maintenance of warehouse areas.
• Assist the GM or AGM in evaluating work methods, procedures, controls and staffing, and recommend improvements for accurate, timely product movement.
• Help drive continuous improvement and efficiency gains to reduce cost-to-serve, and may help manage a 3PL provider depending on the DC.
• Coach and train associates through informal on-floor coaching and formal evaluations, while maintaining a union-free workplace.
• Enforce safety policies and monitor safety, physical security and operational metrics daily, weekly and monthly.
• Depending on need, work with the GM on the relationship with the 3PL delivery or transportation agent and review carrier performance.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED; preferred bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business or Supply Chain.
• Preferred: previous change management experience, proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and ability to work weekends, holidays and on-call schedules.
