Distribution Center General Manager II

About the role

The General Manager II guarantees the overall success of a large, complex distribution center (500,000 to 1.5+ million square feet) and manages its day-to-day operations, a budget of typically $40+ million, and a team of 200 to 400 associates. The GM II leads a team of managers to maximize productivity and control expenses while delivering on-time, undamaged merchandise to stores and customers.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the DC's financial, operational, people and process objectives to drive continuous improvement and efficiency gains, and take part in business process improvement projects; may manage a 3PL provider depending on the DC.
• Evaluate work methods, procedures, controls and staffing, and keep the warehouse layout aligned with seasonality and inventory needs.
• Work with Supply Chain, Operations, Merchandising, Finance, Human Resources, Asset Protection and Stores, sharing best practices across the distribution network.
• Coach and train associates, give performance-based feedback and maintain a union-free workplace.
• Ensure store and customer needs are met, handle emergencies and conduct store walks with local store leadership.
• Enforce safety policies and monitor safety, physical security and operational metrics daily, weekly and monthly.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED; preferred bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business or Supply Chain.
• 7 years of work experience preferred; no additional years of experience or leadership experience required.
• Open to relocation, able to work weekends and holidays, and willing to travel 5% to 20% of the time, including overnight trips.
• Physical demands include intermittent periods of walking, standing, stooping, climbing and lifting, sometimes heavy or awkward loads, in an environment with temperature extremes, machinery noise and fumes.

Required skills

• Preferred: proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Preferred: previous change management experience and ability to work a flexible schedule and be on call.
