Distribution Center Assistant General Manager

About the role

The DC Assistant General Manager is responsible for the success of all operational functions within a large distribution center of around 500,000+ square feet, making it an outstanding place to work. The role supervises a large team of DC Operations Managers covering Inbound, Warehouse, Outbound and Office Operations, and works with the General Manager to set strategies and objectives that maximize productivity and control expenses. It reports to the DC General Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Help evaluate and recommend improvements to work methods, procedures, controls and staffing so that product moves accurately and on time, and help anticipate seasonal changes and upcoming events.
• Advise on financial, operational, people and process objectives to drive continuous improvement and lower cost-to-serve; may manage a 3PL provider depending on the DC.
• Ensure operational excellence across warehouse areas, including efficient use of warehouse management systems, safe and efficient receiving and processing, proper layout and maintenance.
• Coach and train the management team, give performance-based feedback and maintain a union-free workplace.
• Enforce safety policies, monitor safety, physical security and operational metrics daily, weekly and monthly.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED; preferred bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business or Supply Chain.
• 3 years of work experience preferred; no leadership experience required.
• Flexible schedule, on-call availability, weekend and holiday work, and openness to relocation.

Required skills

• Preferred: proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Preferred: previous change management experience.
