Distinguished Research Scientist – NOAA LMRCSC

About the role

The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applications for a full‑time, twelve‑month tenure‑track or tenured faculty position as a Distinguished Research Scientist with the NOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center (LMRCSC). The role combines research leadership, teaching, and coordination of interdisciplinary marine‑fisheries projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and expand LMRCSC research in NOAA fisheries‑related areas.
• Coordinate collaborative research among partner institutions and NOAA Fisheries.
• Secure external funding and involve faculty and students in research initiatives.
• Organize annual LMRCSC science meetings, RFP processes, and proposal reviews.
• Support student professional development and experiential research training at NOAA.
• Conduct independent research, mentor graduate students, and publish scholarly work.
• Teach one graduate‑level course per semester in the candidate’s specialty.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in marine science, fisheries science, biology, zoology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Minimum ten years of successful teaching and/or research experience in academia or a federal/state agency.
• Strong record of grant acquisition, research productivity, and publications in marine or fisheries sciences.
• Active participation in professional organizations.

Required skills

• Advanced open‑water diving or instructor certifications (preferred).
