Director, Transportation Safety

About the role

The Director, Transportation Safety leads global commercial growth for 3M’s road, vehicle and transit safety portfolio. Reporting to the President of Transportation, this senior leader shapes product strategy, influences safety standards and drives revenue across signage, pavement markings and vehicle registration solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Set and achieve revenue targets for traffic signage, pavement markings and vehicle registration products worldwide.
• Build and maintain executive‑level relationships with Departments of Transportation, ministries of transport and major infrastructure contractors.
• Develop go‑to‑market strategies that align with regional regulatory environments and maximize market penetration.
• Own pricing, demand forecasting and margin management to ensure profitable growth.
• Partner with Government Affairs to monitor, influence and respond to global transportation legislation and safety mandates.
• Represent 3M on international standards committees and translate emerging regulations into commercial opportunities.
• Collaborate with R&D and Product Management to prioritize portfolio investment and balance short‑term revenue with long‑term leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (required) and twelve years of leadership experience in global B2B/B2G sales within transportation safety or infrastructure policy.
• Proven track record managing cross‑border sales teams and navigating long‑cycle government procurement across the Americas, EMEA and APAC.
• Deep knowledge of global traffic device standards (e.g., MUTCD, European equivalents) and vehicle compliance frameworks.
• Experience influencing standards‑setting bodies and commercializing engineered‑product portfolios in regulated markets.
• Strong executive stakeholder influence and cross‑cultural leadership abilities.
