Director of Strategic Operations

About the role

The Director of Strategic Operations will serve as a key advisor to the Executive Director, shaping and executing WSNA’s strategy to support nurses and patients across Washington State. This senior leader will coordinate cross‑functional initiatives, align governance with operations, and drive organizational performance.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with senior leaders to set strategic priorities and translate them into actionable plans, timelines, and accountabilities.
• Design and manage organization‑wide projects related to strategic priorities, member engagement, and major campaigns.
• Translate Board and Labor Executive Council decisions into measurable goals, performance metrics, and project plans.
• Develop tools and routines to track progress, identify barriers, and support problem‑solving.
• Provide executive‑level leadership for IT, membership, and business operations.
• Integrate JEDI principles into strategic planning and cross‑department initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, nonprofit management, public policy, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5–7+ years of progressive executive‑level leadership, strategy, or project management experience in a union, professional association, or advocacy organization.
• Proven success designing and implementing strategic plans and complex multi‑stakeholder projects.
• Prior supervisory experience with professional staff.
• Strong analytical, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
• Familiarity with union, labor, and legislative environments; healthcare or nursing experience preferred.

• Office productivity tools (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
• Member or customer relationship management systems (CRM).
