Director of Platform Engineering

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Director of Platform Engineering to lead its global SD‑WAN strategy and transform the customer edge network. This senior leader will own the end‑to‑end planning, execution, and operational readiness of a worldwide SD‑WAN program, ensuring secure, resilient, and scalable connectivity for thousands of sites.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the global SD‑WAN strategy and oversee phased rollout across 2,000+ customer edge sites.
• Define architecture, standardization, and lifecycle management for WAN, LAN, and cloud‑edge platforms.
• Plan and execute all SD‑WAN deployments, including pilots, scaling models, migration waves, and production transitions.
• Govern vendor partnerships and technical integrations with providers such as Fortinet and Cisco.
• Ensure compliance with PCI DSS, ISO 27001, and other risk management frameworks.
• Collaborate with operations, security, architecture, sourcing, and business units to deliver seamless WAN modernization.
• Drive automation‑focused operations and continuous improvement of network processes.

Required profile

• Proven leadership in large‑scale network transformation programs, especially SD‑WAN deployments.
• Experience building and leading geographically distributed engineering teams.
• Strong communication skills with senior leadership and business stakeholders.
• Track record of delivering complex programs on schedule and within budget.
• Familiarity with change control, compliance, and network risk management.

• Cisco routing and switching platforms.
• Fortinet SD‑WAN solutions.
• Enterprise firewalls (Check Point, Palo Alto).
• Hybrid cloud networking on Azure, Google Cloud, and AWS.
• Dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF).
• Zero‑trust network design principles.
• Vendor governance and automation tools.
• Compliance frameworks PCI DSS and ISO 27001.
