Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (PRN) – Cleveland Clinic

About the role

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (PRN) provides high‑quality ultrasound imaging for patients of all ages at Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital. This as‑needed position supports the Regional Radiology‑Diagnostics Institute with flexible scheduling, including weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic sonographic studies (obstetrical, GYN, abdominal, pediatric, vascular, etc.) using handheld probes and advanced imaging equipment.
• Review patient charts, consult with referring physicians, and select appropriate protocols and equipment.
• Educate patients about procedures, ensure comfort and safety, and assist with scheduling emergency exams.
• Acquire, archive, transmit, and print images via PACS; complete after‑hours transmission and related paperwork.
• Report equipment malfunctions, maintain supplies, and assist with clinical instruction of students and new caregivers.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program in good standing.
• Registered Diagnostic Sonographer (RDMS) through ARDMS (or appropriate ARRT certification) within the required timeframe.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• One year of sonography experience preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ultrasound equipment and imaging modalities.
• Experience using PACS and RIS for image management and billing.
• Knowledge of patient positioning, safety protocols, and infection control.
• Ability to lift patients and stand for extended periods.
