Development Director

About the role

The Development Director leads CIPC’s fundraising strategy, overseeing grants, major gifts, corporate philanthropy and digital campaigns to support immigrant rights across California. Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, this senior leader works hybrid (2 days onsite, 3 days remote) and travels statewide.

Key responsibilities

• Set and achieve annual fundraising goals through a diversified plan covering grants, individual giving, corporate partnerships and sponsorships.
• Lead grant development, submission, reporting and compliance, ensuring program staff meet funder requirements.
• Research, cultivate and steward major donors, foundations and corporate partners, building long‑term relationships.
• Collaborate with Communications to create donor‑focused multimedia and marketing materials.
• Oversee fundraising events, from budgeting to vendor coordination.
• Manage development data in CRM systems, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
• Supervise and mentor Development Associates, supporting hiring and professional growth.

Required profile

• At least 10 years of nonprofit development experience, including 3+ years in a director role.
• Proven record of raising a minimum $5 million annual operating budget.
• Minimum 7 years of supervisory experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff, board members and volunteers.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• CRM database applications for donor and grant tracking.
