About the role
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) is seeking a full‑time researcher to join its Defense of Europe Project. The role focuses on open‑source analysis of Russian and NATO military capabilities, helping to forecast threats and assess deterrence across Europe.
Key responsibilities
- Collect and synthesize open‑source information on political and security developments related to Russia and NATO.
- Produce expert analysis on current and potential future Russian and NATO military capabilities.
- Collaborate closely with ISW’s Russia Team to integrate ongoing Ukraine invasion analysis with project forecasts.
- Publish written reports and deliver verbal briefings for U.S., NATO, and Ukrainian policymakers.
- Identify risks and opportunities in policy approaches to strengthen European defense.
Required profile
- Self‑motivated and detail‑oriented researcher with a passion for security analysis.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting insights to senior decision‑makers.
- Interest in European security, NATO readiness, and Russian strategic behavior.
