Counsel / Senior Counsel - Climate Change Litigation

About the role

Chevron is hiring a Counsel / Senior Counsel for its Strategic Issues & International Litigation (SI&IL) group in Houston, Texas. The role helps manage and drive strategy on complex litigation and investigations, with a primary focus on the company's climate change litigation docket, working with senior in-house leadership, executive stakeholders and outside counsel. It reports to the Team Lead for Strategic Litigation and sits within the team reporting to the Chief Counsel for Strategic Issues & International Litigation.

Key responsibilities

• Help manage strategic litigation and investigations, focusing on climate change litigation
• Provide strategic legal counsel to the Corporate Strategy function and other internal clients on matters of enterprise significance
• Manage litigation risk on matters related to climate
• Develop briefing papers and advise on materials presented to internal governance forums and executive leadership
• Advise on policies, strategies and advocacy
• Monitor and guide litigation, enforcement matters and trends, and legal, regulatory and standards developments affecting disclosure regimes
• Partner with and help manage outside counsel

Required profile

• Juris Doctorate and bachelor's degree
• At least 5 years of sophisticated legal experience
• Admission to practice law in at least one state or the District of Columbia, meeting the bar requirements of the place of work
• Experience in complex litigation in a premier law firm or a prosecutorial office (civil, criminal, appellate or other division) preferred
• A federal or state supreme court judicial clerkship preferred
