Intellectual Property Counsel

About the role

TTI Consumer Power Tools, Inc. is hiring an in-house Intellectual Property Counsel for its Anderson, South Carolina office. TTI CPT designs and develops consumer and professional power tools and outdoor products under brands such as RYOBI and RIDGID.

Key responsibilities

• Manage product clearance and patent application preparation and prosecution
• Advise business and engineering staff on product clearance, patentability and related strategies
• Run invention mining and brainstorming sessions with staff
• Carry out patent clearance and patentability searches
• Manage parts of the company's patent portfolio
• Monitor competitors and take part in IP Steering Committee meetings
• Support patent licensing, enforcement and controversy matters
• Help optimize processes and procedures

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
• Licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• At least 3-5 years of experience as a patent practitioner in a law firm and/or corporate setting
• Juris Doctorate from a nationally accredited law school, active state bar membership and good standing
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, with strong written and verbal communication and advocacy skills
• Self-motivated, takes ownership and pays close attention to detail; limited travel
