Senior Associate General Counsel, Banking Regulatory Affairs

About the role

The State of Illinois, through its Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, is hiring a Senior Associate General Counsel for the Banking Program Counseling Section's Regulatory Affairs Unit in Chicago. The position serves as a primary source for legal advice on banking, mortgage, student loan servicing and other financial regulations, and works Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, with a hybrid schedule and occasional reporting to headquarters.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a primary source for legal advice and counsel on banking, mortgage, student loan servicing and other financial regulations.
• Supervise the legal activities of subordinate technical staff and advise them on legal policy and regulatory affairs.
• Conferring with personnel on complex legal problems and coordinating or independently researching and investigating issues related to the regulated industries, recommending legal courses of action.
• Speak on behalf of Division leadership at various functions.

Required profile

• Special license in Illinois law (Illinois Law License).
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; the State does not sponsor employment visas.
• Bilingual skills are welcome.
