Corrections Nurse I

About the role

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is hiring a Corrections Nurse I in Lincoln, IL. The nurse performs direct nursing care for individuals in a congregate care setting, following the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting. The position is full time, salaried and unionized, with a starting salary of $7,034 per month (step 1) and a range of $7,034-$9,550.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and primary nursing care under general supervision, in line with standards, procedures, policies and security guidelines
• Review and maintain records, and complete health status forms for individuals in custody being transferred so care continues
• Maintain the security of medications, medical equipment and supplies according to facility policy
• Monitor and maintain safety and sanitation in patient treatment and examination rooms
• Participate in quality assurance programs by monitoring staff compliance with established policies

Required profile

• Valid Illinois license as a registered nurse
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Self-starter who can follow the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; the state does not sponsor visas

Working conditions

• Three 12.5-hour shifts per week on a three-week rotation (7:30am-8:00pm)
• Fully in office; no hybrid availability
• Bilingual skills are welcome
