Cook / Kitchen Assistant

About the role

Camp Baer, part of Wise Path Recovery, is looking for a dedicated Cook/Kitchen Support to help provide quality, holistic behavioral health and substance use recovery services. The role contributes to the well-being of clients by preparing and serving nutritious meals in a respectful, welcoming environment. The position is full-time and hourly.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner in line with dietary guidelines and client-specific needs
• Work with the Dietitian to plan menus and order food according to census and dietary requirements
• Check and record food, refrigerator, freezer and water temperatures daily
• Keep the kitchen clean and sanitary, including dishes, surfaces, floors and storage areas
• Follow Oklahoma food safety regulations and internal protocols
• Help with meal service, table clearing and creating a supportive dining atmosphere
• Report changes in client behaviour or physical condition to the clinical team
• Carry out other food service or housekeeping tasks as assigned

Required profile

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively with others
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with compassion for clients in recovery
• Willingness to obtain a West Virginia Food Handler's Permit and ServeSafe certification within 30 days of hire
• Preferred: 1+ year of experience in institutional, healthcare or residential food service
• Preferred: familiarity with sanitation practices and dietary accommodations

Physical requirements

• Lift up to 40 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally
• Stand and walk for long periods (up to 8 hours)
• Bend, stoop, reach and push or pull food carts frequently
• Tolerate heat, noise, steam and cleaning chemicals in the kitchen

The job takes place in a licensed behavioral health facility, so confidentiality and infection control protocols must be followed. Weekend and holiday shifts are required, and occasional exposure to stressful or emotionally challenging situations may occur.
