Consulting Utility Forester

About the role

ACRT, Inc. is looking for experienced professionals who enjoy working outdoors for its Consulting Utility Forester position in Boise, Idaho. It suits both entry-level and seasoned candidates with a background in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, environmental studies, conservation or related fields. The forester works on utility lines, identifies and evaluates trees and brush, and coordinates tree-clearance crews.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, inspect and evaluate trees and brush along utility lines
• Submit inspection results to clients with recommendations
• Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of assigned tree-clearance crews
• Negotiate line-clearance crew access issues
• Serve as a liaison between clients, tree crews and customer utilities

Required profile

• 1 year of experience in utility vegetation management or a related field (e.g., right-of-way management, integrated vegetation management, nursery work or timber cutting)
• 2- or 4-year degree in Forestry, Natural Resources or a related field preferred
• ISA Certified Arborist certification; TRAQ certification preferred
• Self-motivated, organized and production-oriented, able to work independently and manage a geographic area
• Able to work with stakeholders, utility customers and vendors, with strong verbal and written communication skills
• Comfortable in varied terrain and inclement weather, with flexible schedules including nights and weekends
• Valid driver's license required

Required skills

• Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with GIS-integrated data collection software/hardware preferred but not required
• Multi-tasking and strong time management
