Consulting Utility Forester

About the role

ACRT, Inc., an independent national vegetation management consulting firm, is hiring a full-time Consulting Utility Forester in Toms River. Reporting to the Senior Consulting Utility Forester, the role identifies, inspects and evaluates trees and brush along utility lines, submits inspection results to clients with recommendations, and plans, directs and coordinates the activities of assigned tree clearance crews.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect local trees, map circuits using client continuity lists and patrol distribution and transmission circuits
• Enter tree trimming prescriptions into handheld devices or software, notify property owners and manage work issuance and progress
• Perform outage investigations, negotiate crew access issues and conduct herbicide audits
• Audit tree trimming and removal work in the field, complete post-audit forms and determine when the next trimming is required
• Obtain permits, comply with regulatory requirements and client standards, and assist with storm restoration
• Act as liaison between clients, tree crews and customers, and support emergency response when asked

Required profile

• Associate degree in Forestry, Horticulture or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred)
• Two years of related utility experience preferred; must be 21 or older
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• ISA Arborist certification within 30 months of assignment, plus an online safe driver course and drug/alcohol testing

Required skills

• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) or similar
• Ability to identify local trees, read maps and work in rugged terrain and bad weather
• Ability to drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle
• Knowledge of vegetation management and herbicide use is a plus
