About the role

The Construction Records Auditor I supports TxDOT’s Tyler District by reviewing construction project records, ensuring contractor compliance with federal and state regulations, and providing training to junior staff. The position works independently on audits while escalating unusual issues to a supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Advise contractors' bookkeepers on proper record‑keeping procedures.
• Assist Federal Highway Administration and departmental reviews, acting as liaison when needed.
• Monitor material testing results for compliance with specifications.
• Participate in contract administration meetings.
• Perform and review construction records audits, coordinating estimates, change orders, and work orders with area engineers.
• Train less experienced recordkeepers and auditors.
• Verify contractor compliance with federal EEO and on‑the‑job training requirements.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; related technical training may substitute for experience.
• No prior experience required; on‑the‑job training provided.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to operate a state vehicle.
• Ability to work independently and refer complex issues to a supervisor.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard office equipment and computer applications.
• Understanding of governmental policies, auditing methods, and EEO guidelines.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, schematics, blueprints, and maps.
